Puerto Vallarta Proposal Photographer
Planning a surprise proposal? I help you plan the moment and capture it discreetly.
Send me your datesA surprise proposal photo session in Puerto Vallarta starts at 174 USD in low season and 209 USD from November through April. The session runs 60 minutes and includes an engagement-style shoot immediately after the yes, at no extra charge. The proposal is usually disguised as an ordinary couples photo session, which is common enough in Puerto Vallarta that it raises no suspicion. Two to three weeks of notice is ideal, though last-minute bookings are often possible if the date is open. Sunset is the best time, roughly 45 to 60 minutes before the sun goes down over the Pacific.
Planning a Proposal in Puerto Vallarta? I Can Help
Proposing during your trip to Puerto Vallarta is an unforgettable moment. I help couples plan the perfect location, timing, and approach so the surprise stays intact.
How the Surprise Proposal Works
1. We Plan the Moment
Before your session, we talk about your idea for the proposal and choose the best location and timing in Puerto Vallarta.
2. A Relaxed Couples Photoshoot
Many proposals happen during what appears to be a couples photo session. This helps your partner feel comfortable and ready for photos while keeping the surprise intact.
3. The Perfect Moment
During the session I guide you into a natural moment where you can turn toward your partner and propose. Because the scene is already set, I'm ready to capture the exact moment it happens.
4. Celebrate With Engagement Photos
After the proposal we continue with a short engagement-style session so you leave with beautiful photos of the moment and the celebration.
Best Places to Propose in Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta offers some of the most romantic settings in Mexico — from cobblestone streets to secluded beaches with Pacific sunsets. Here are the locations where I've photographed real proposals, and what makes each one special.
Conchas Chinas
If you’re looking for privacy and a wilder, more natural feel, Conchas Chinas is the answer. The rocky shoreline and crystal-clear water create a setting that feels far from the tourist crowds — even though it’s just minutes from downtown. This location works especially well for couples who want something that feels intimate and undiscovered. Access requires a short walk down stone steps, so factor that into your planning.
Zona Romántica
The cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and relaxed atmosphere of the Romantic Zone make it ideal for a more urban, story-driven proposal. A favorite approach: a casual walk through the neighborhood that leads to a quiet corner or rooftop with a view. The authentic local energy adds character to your photos that a beach setting simply can’t replicate.
Playa Los Muertos
This is the heart of Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone — and one of the most iconic spots for a proposal. The pier at Playa los Muertos offers a dramatic ocean backdrop, while the beach itself provides a more intimate, natural setting. Golden hour here is extraordinary: the light hits the water at an angle that makes every photo feel cinematic. Best timing is 30–45 minutes before sunset.
Bucerías
A charming small town just 30 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, Bucerías offers long stretches of uncrowded beach and a relaxed, village atmosphere. If you want a proposal that feels unhurried and away from the energy of the city, this is a hidden gem. The beach here tends to have fewer people even during high season, which makes the surprise much easier to pull off.
Punta de Mita
For couples staying at luxury resorts in the Riviera Nayarit, Punta de Mita — also known simply as Punta Mita — offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the region. The combination of jungle, rugged coastline, and clear Pacific water is unlike anywhere else in the area. This location is particularly popular with couples who want their proposal to feel truly exclusive. Note: access to some beaches requires staying at the area resorts, so check with your property before choosing this spot.
What's the Best Time of Day for a Proposal in Puerto Vallarta?
Sunset is the clear winner — and for good reason. Puerto Vallarta's Pacific-facing coastline means you get the full drama of the sun setting over the ocean, which is rare on Mexico's Caribbean side. The golden hour light, typically 45–60 minutes before sunset, is soft, warm, and flattering in photos.
That said, early morning has a strong case too. The beach is nearly empty, the light is gentle, and there's a quiet, intimate quality to the moment that sunset crowds can't always offer. If privacy matters more than dramatic light, consider 7–8 AM.
Midday is the one time I generally advise against — the harsh overhead sun creates unflattering shadows and the beaches are at their most crowded.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a proposal photographer in Puerto Vallarta?
Two to three weeks is ideal, and a bit more during peak season (November through April), since that gives us time to settle on the location, the timing, and how the surprise unfolds. That said, I have photographed proposals for couples who contacted me the day before — if I am not already booked, I can usually make it happen. If you are working with a short timeline, just message me and I will tell you right away whether your date is open.
How do you keep the proposal a surprise?
The approach that works most often is to present it as an ordinary couples photo session. Plenty of visitors book one in Puerto Vallarta, so it raises no suspicion at all — your partner simply thinks you are getting nice vacation photos. There are other ways to do it depending on your situation, and we choose the right one together once your session is booked. I keep those specifics between us so the surprise stays airtight.
Do you help plan the proposal, or just photograph it?
As much or as little as you need. Some couples want every detail mapped out beforehand — the exact spot, the signal, where I will be standing, what happens in the moments right after. Others prefer to show up and let it unfold naturally. Both work well. If you are undecided, I lean toward planning it carefully: it costs us one conversation and removes almost everything that could go wrong on the day.
Can you photograph a proposal at a resort or private venue?
Yes, though the permission is something you will want to arrange directly with the property. It is genuinely easier that way — as the paying guest, you get a fast and usually favorable answer, while an outside photographer asking cold tends to run into a slower process. Just ask your concierge whether outside photographers are allowed and let me know what they say. If your property does not permit it, there are beautiful public locations nearby and I will recommend the best one for your dates.
What happens after the proposal — do you keep photographing?
Yes, and it is included in every session rather than an add-on. Right after the yes, we keep going: the embrace, the call home, the ring, and a relaxed engagement-style walk together. Those first few minutes are often the most natural images of the entire session, because by then the nerves are gone and nobody is thinking about the camera anymore.
How much does a proposal photographer cost in Puerto Vallarta?
My proposal packages currently start at 174 USD, which covers the planning conversation, the proposal itself, and the engagement-style session right after. Rates are seasonal and tend to be higher during the November-through-April high season, so the current pricing page is always the accurate one. Longer coverage, video, and multi-location sessions are available if you want something more elaborate.
What happens if it rains on the day of my proposal?
You have three options, and the choice is always yours. Most afternoon rain in Puerto Vallarta passes within thirty to sixty minutes, so waiting it out is usually the simplest path — and the light right after a storm can be extraordinary. If you would rather go ahead in the rain, I can shoot with a weather cover on the camera; I want to be straightforward that this limits me, since I cannot use additional lighting or change lenses while the cover is on, so the images will be simpler than a dry session. And if you prefer a different day, I reschedule at no cost. If your travel dates make rescheduling impossible, I refund you in full.
